Wedding Technology Adventure

Planning a wedding has just become a technological adventure as much as it is an adventure in planning, stress management, budgets, and negotiating. While planning a wedding can be fun, it can also be one of the most stressful and time-consuming times of your life. However, with iphones and ipads, your wedding planning can be easily made mobile and no longer as tedious as once thought.

There are a variety of very useful and different wedding applications now available on the apple network for download (some of the same versions are available on the Android network, but many are still in development).

First, iwedding is an app that will help every bride manage every task and aspect of wedding planning. There are areas to help you choose venue sites, manage guest lists, and track the many things that you still have left to do.

Second, is the popular My Wedding app. This will help you see that every detail of the event is taken care of and that nothing is neglected. It is somewhat similar to iwedding, but some users find this one more to their liking.

Third, every bride can tell you that the most popular bridal website out there is theknot.com. While it would be amazing if they had created an app that had everything their website is capable of capturing, they have not created such an app…yet. But, the knot has created a portable wedding dress look book app. For the bride that will spend hours searching for the perfect dress, this is the app for you! You now have a portable, and much less lighter version, of the bridal magazines that you love to search through daily looking for the “perfect gown.” It is a free app that allows you to quickly pull up your potential dress so you can easily get a second opinion from those around you.

Fourth, Wedding Bridal Binder is an app that allows you to feel as though you are carrying around your “planning binder” with you everywhere you go. It can help you stay on top of vendor selection, budgets, allow you to take notes, view a timeline, and more. Perfect for the “type A” bride that wants to constantly manage every wedding detail with ease.

Fifth, Wedding date is an app that keeps track of your wedding date and reminds you of any anniversaries…great for the husband that might miss the date in the future.

Sixth, the Wedding day app, is the perfect app for bride is that is literally counting every second until the big day. This app will give you a countdown right to the very second!

Seventh, is ibridal gown. This app is just exactly what you think. An app that is similar to the lookbook app from the knot. A nice alternative if maybe the knot look book isn’t giving you quite what you had hoped for.

Last, Wedding Scan is a fabulous wedding registry app that allows couples to register at many different stores and have them uploaded to an online account. A nice alternative to just visiting the local stores and registering. You might find things on here you would have never found at the more common stores couples choose to register at.

Whether you are a bride that will download every wedding application out there in hopes of not missing a single detail, or are the type that might consider using one, the fact that even wedding planning has gone mobile is a sign that weddings are another great example of why smartphones are making life, and the most important day of it, easier to manage and plan.

ORANGE POPPY EVENTS

by Autumn Murray and Chelsea Camalick

While preparing to launch our coordination business for the upcoming 2011 wedding season, we came across some obvious trends in our research.

Most brides immediately begin to create their color palette after getting engaged. 2011 will be a huge year for color. Expect to see lots of bright colors such as emerald, celadon, coral, violet, bright orange, and canary yellow. For the bride afraid of using too much color you will still see earthy, more traditional tones. Picture dark chocolates, deep greys and charcoals, tangerine, deep burgundies such as sangria and merlot, mocha and latte toned taupes and deep navy. Many brides are choosing to even pair an earthier tone while coordinating a “pop” of color from the vibrant tones out there. Think of the charcoal, white, black and canary yellow theme that began to gain popularity in 2010 after the infamous Tori Spelling used that color palette in her vow renewal.

One other very obvious theme for 2011 will be the “do it yourself” bride and groom. With the economy still not recovered, wedding budgets are taking a huge hit, and one way to save money is to create things yourself. It also allows couples to fully capture their unique “couple style” and have fun while doing it together. Couples will be handmaking everything from invitations to flowers and decor themselves. And, with sites like Etsy.com (examples like http://gravyanddessert.blogspot.com or Captured Moments by Amy )  and an a new abundance of wedding supplies online (including wholesale florists), creating your own dream wedding and the decor can definitely save money.

Another result of the struggling economy is smaller, more intimate weddings. People are taking a good, hard look at who should really be included in their day. The days of 500 guests and lavish, sit-down dinners appear to be taking a backseat to smaller weddings with only the closest of family and friends.

Couples are also beginning to incorporate more of their own hobbies and interests in their weddings and using them as themes to make their day more of a personal representation of who they are. You might see more weddings that incorporate wine tastings if the couple has a passion for wine, or perhaps couples making sure their love of golf is a common theme throughout the wedding weekend and day. Or, for the more green couple (which is also gaining momentum this year), you might see recycled paper products used for invitations and napkins as well as LED lights to add a more eco-friendly sparkle to the event.

And, finally with the new Facebook and Twitter rages, you are going to see more couples creating Facebook pages for their wedding and couples sending out tweets about their big day. It is a free, great way to keep people up to date about what is happening with the wedding planning since most of world seems to be logged on all day to the technological world of Facebook and Twitter.

Whatever you desire your wedding to be, 2011 seems to be full of opportunity and a chance to combine new trends with old and make your wedding your very own.
